A Ukrainian lawmaker slammed President Donald Trump's administration on Thursday for how it has handled Russia's war in Ukraine.
Inna Sovsun, a member of Ukraine's parliament, joined Erin Burnett on her show, "OutFront," to discuss Russia's latest attacks on the country. Overnight, Russia sent 538 drones and 91 missiles into Kyiv. The strikes killed 21 people and injured several others, according to reports.
On Thursday, the Trump administration seemed to dismiss the attacks. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press conference that it seems "both sides" are not ready to end the war.
"I can't even imagine saying such a thing," Sovsun said. "It seems like there's a lack of empathy."
Sovsun added that Ukrainians are "appalled" by how the Trump administration has responded to the attacks.
"We have heard the words of President Trump's press secretary, which is all over the news in Ukraine this evening," she said. "I think everyone is very much appalled by what was said."
"What we have heard is basically saying that Ukraine is destroying Russian oil facilities, so they don't want peace," Sovuson added. "Russians are doing something sinister, which is killing Ukrainian civilians and children."
Sovsun suggested that Trump's silence about similar attacks in Kyiv could have played a part in Russia's willingness to carry them out.
"We are still waiting for him to say something," Sovuson said about Trump. "After the terror here last night here in Kyiv, with people waking up multiple times to missile explosions in different parts of the city, with four children being killed, it does look like something that would require action from the leader of the free world."
"Unfortunately, we are not hearing that," she said.
