FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – As the Garnet Fire grows closer to urban areas, a local wildlife sanctuary is preparing for the possibility of evacuations.

Project Survival's Cat Haven is only about six miles south of the now nearly 16,000-acre fire.

While the fire has mostly been making runs to the north since erupting on Sunday afternoon, evacuation warnings have now been extended to the areas south of the Kings River.

The rescue is the next zone south of this area.

In an effort to remain vigilant, staff are asking community members with trucks or trailers who want to be on the "help if called list" to send them a message or call 559-338-3216.

Mandatory evacuations are in order for K27, K30, K31, K32-A, K40 and evacuation warnings have been also issued for K28, K29, K74, K85, K1
