CLEVELAND, Ohio — A sun-filled Labor Day weekend is on the horizon, but first Northeast Ohio has to contend with a cold front that will bring showers and thunderstorms to the region on Thursday.

Light to steady rain showers will spread east across the area early in the afternoon ahead of the front, followed by a line of more organized showers and storms along the front during the evening.

While severe weather is not anticipated, gusty winds and heavy rain could accompany some of the stronger storms.

Breezy conditions ahead of the front will make conditions hazardous on Lake Erie for both swimmers and small boats.

Highs on Thursday will continue the recent trend of below-normal temperatures , topping out in the low 70s.
