Democratic Congressman John Garamendi warned that federal cuts are about to harm local hospitals and patients as he toured a Contra Costa Hospital on Thursday.

Garamendi said President Donald Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" that passed into law on party lines will devastate local healthcare systems.

The congressman said the bill includes drastic cuts that he believes will hurt healthcare nationwide.

"How will we deal with the next pandemic, the next COVID vaccinations, all of those things are at risk. It's time for America to really be aware of what is happening and to push back," Garamendi said. "We're going to be into a political year coming in 2026, and that political year is going to be definitive about services that Americans rely upon."
