HYDE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Matttamuskeet School in Hyde County shared some sad news on its Facebook page Thursday night about the loss of a student.

The school said, “It is with heavy hearts and great grief that we regret to inform our school community that a student in 6th grade at Mattamuskeet passed away today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the student.”

The post did not provide any details regarding the child’s death.

The school says they ask for prayers and strength in this time for students, staff, and the school community as they process this loss.

A team will be at the school Friday to provide counseling support for students and staff.
