COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- The owner of a Compton cemetery feels helpless after about a dozen headstones were stolen.

The theft happened at Woodlawn Celestial Gardens on Greenleaf Boulevard.

Owner Celestina Bishop told Eyewitness News about a dozen headstones were taken and several dozens more were damaged or moved. She thinks the thieves are stealing them for the bronze or copper plaques.

Bishop said more than 100 headstones were stolen about a year and a half ago, and she's fed up.

"This is wrong on all levels, but I mean, stop coming over here," she said. "It's very heartbreaking. I feel personally attacked every time something happens at Woodlawn, because I'm the only advocate that these people here have."
