LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska State Senator and Judiciary Committee Chair Carolyn Bosn says a call for a public hearing by her fellow senators on McCook/ICE detention facility plans is “premature.”
In a social media post Wednesday, Sen. Megan Hunt shared a four-page letter outlining lawmakers’ concerns and urging Gov. Pillen to hold a public hearing. The document described confusion among state officials after the agreement was announced between the Department of Homeland Security and the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
Senators said they were not given prior notice of the agreement and are now questioning the governor’s authority to approve it. They also raised concerns about the impact on current Department of Correctional Services staff and inmates.
