PRESCOTT, Ariz. — It remains one of the darkest days in Arizona history.
On June 30, 2013, 19 members of Prescott’s Granite Mountain Hotshot crew were killed when flames overran their position as they battled the Yarnell Hill Fire. The elite crew was led by Superintendent Eric Marsh.
“He absolutely loved it,” Amanda Marsh said of her late husband. “He loved the travel, he loved, as he used to say, turning boys into men.”
In the months following the tragedy, Marsh started the Eric Marsh Foundation.
“My desire for this nonprofit was always to remember the boys, to honor them first, and to do good in their name. And that’s what we’ve done for 11 years,” Marsh said.
