The 15th annual Closer to Free Ride is Saturday, Sept. 6. The fundraiser for Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center helps fund patient and family support programs, like hospice care.

“We live in a death-defying society, so people don't like talking about death and dying,” Adara Holecz, a licensed clinical social worker, said. “And I welcome the conversation.”

Holecz works for Yale New Haven Health’s “Health at Home" Hospice program, supporting patients and families with six-month or fewer diagnosis.
