The University of Delaware's first game as an official member of the Football Bowl Subdivision certainly came with some growing pains, but a 35-17 victory over in-state rival Delaware State Thursday night.

Delaware could muster just 80 yards of offense in the first quarter-and-a-half, not helped by starting QB Zach Marker leaving the game on crutches with a knee injury in the opening quarter.

Delaware State finally broke the seal in the second quarter, but it could have been more, as Milford's Marquis Gillis' apparent 41-yard touchdown run was negated by a hold, and they had to settle for London-born kicker Patrick Fisher-Butler's 40-yard field goal, and a 3-0 lead.

Delaware's offense responded to the adversity with two long drives to end the half.
