NEWBERRY, Fla. (WCJB) - Short-term rentals are popping up in the Town of Tioga, and many people are not happy.

“It would change dramatically,” shared resident Annette Merritt.

Merritt has lived in the Town of Tioga for 20 years, and decided to attend her first community meeting because she doesn’t want short-term rentals like Airbnb’s in her neighborhood.

“It’s worrisome. Right now, this is a very quiet, peaceful neighborhood, said Merritt. ”It’s not loud. There’s not loud music, loud parties, so those are the kinds of things you get with short-term rentals, especially on gameday weekends or something.”

At least one resident wants to rent out her place. But at the meeting, Developer, Luis Diaz, says he wants people to know nothing is changing right now.
