FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Rachel Axt, a Central Valley Miss America candidate and the first woman from the Central Valley to win Miss California in 30 years, visited a local elementary school Thursday.

Axt made her special appearance at Fremont Elementary School in Fowler, bringing a special performance to the student assembly as a special treat.

Axt was also an alumna of the school and currently teaches there as well.

"It's an honor, it's a blessing. And honestly, I feel welcomed back here in Fowler. When I attended our district kickoff, I saw so many familiar faces who greeted me with such warmth," she said.

Axt will be competing for Miss America next week. Pageant finals night will be held on Sept. 8.
