AKRON, Ohio — A Barberton man was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison for making weapons with a 3D printer and downloading about 1,000 images and videos of child pornography.

Alexander Beattie , 34, sold fully made guns, parts and devices that allow semi-automatic guns to fire like automatic weapons to undercover federal agents and felons that he knew, prosecutors said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Toni Schnellinger Feisthamel said during the hearing that because the weapons Beattie made, known as ghost guns, have no serial numbers and are untraceable, there’s no telling the harm Beattie’s weapons have caused.

“We don’t know how many people he’s hurt or how his actions will hurt people in the future,” she said.
