Treasured Life Initiative, a local Cape Cod nonprofit, is working to raise awareness about human trafficking.

Co-founder Jen Hevenor told the Enterprise in an interview this week that before founding the nonprofit alongside Marcia Donnelly, she had mainly only heard of human trafficking through the media and television.

Years ago, “my perception of it was that it was like the movie ‘Taken,’” Hevenor said, adding that she also believed human trafficking was something that happened in third-world countries, “but not here.”

As a resident of Cape Cod and an employee at Cape Cod Hospital for more than 30 years, Henevor said that she and Donnelly both felt called to found the nonprofit for unique reasons. For Hevenor, the calling came while she was listening to a podcast, inspiring the birth
