The hot weather over the summer months has taken its toll, and two fisheries had to close because of weed growth. They are now open again.

Allandale Tarn was temporarily closed because of the high water temperature and the popular fishery, which attracts anglers from all over the Lothians, is open again.

Iona Allan (pictured), Tarn’s owner, said the air temperature rose to over 30c and that prompted the closure. The recent rain has helped and she is fortunate in that a spring feeds the fishery near West Calder, helping keep temperatures down.

Anglers can fish from 9am (gates open 8am) until 9pm this week, but the time may change next week.

Sizeable fish are being caught and she is re-stocking with various species including Tiger trout. Fishing is currently top of the water with plenty
