Ryanair has delivered disappointing news to UK travellers after confirming plans to slash approximately one million seats to and from regional Spanish airports this winter due to soaring airport charges.
The budget airline will make a comprehensive announcement on 3 September, with medium and smaller airports anticipated to bear the brunt of these cuts.
The move follows state-controlled airport operator Aena's decision to hike airline fees by 6.5% for 2026, pushing the cost per passenger to €11.03.
Speaking earlier this year, Ryanair Chief Executive Officer Eddie Wilson commented: "Aena's excessive airport charges and lack of viable incentives for growth continue to harm Spain's regional airports, limiting their growth and leaving huge areas of airport capacity unused."
