One Marion native is set to receive the state's highest civilian honor later this year at a ceremony in Asheville.
On Tuesday, Gov. Josh Stein announced that he will present the the North Carolina Award to six distinguished North Carolinians on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the historic Grove Park Inn in Asheville. This is the first time the ceremony will be held outside of Raleigh.
One of those six distinguished North Carolinians is Roy Williams, Basketball Hall of Fame coach who was born in Marion.
All proceeds from ticket sales for the awards ceremony will go to the Community Foundation of North Carolina to help communities recover from Hurricane Helene. Tickets may be purchased online at www.dncr.nc.gov/about-us/north-carolina-awards.
