John Gioia ran the ball into the endzone for two touchdowns to help Rutherford win its season opener against Pompton Lakes, 21-0, in Rutherford.

Rutherford (1-0) opened the scoring in the first quarter when Gioia rushed for a two-yard score. Graham Jordan kicked in the extra point to give Rutherford a 7-0 lead.
