Billy Idol and Joan Jett put on the kind of concerts you can package in a time capsule as prototypical examples of Rock ‘n’ Roll 101.
Playing on a rainy Thursday night, Aug. 28, at the Pine Knob Music Theatre, the two veterans remain great characters and caricatures, (but honestly so), and they simply did what they’ve been doing for decades — torquing up the octane and offering a big, primal entertainment to 11,000 or so fans, playing pretty much all the songs they wanted to hear and employing just enough visual enhancement to complement and never overwhelm the music itself. Idol knew he was being rhetorical when he asked “Do you wanna have some fun?,” but that’s exactly what he and Jett delivered, along with some welcome trips down memory lane.
