FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A vacant, boarded-up central Fresno home that has seen multiple fires in the past burned Thursday night, according to the Fresno Fire Department.
Michael Zimmerman, Fire Captain, with the Fresno Fire Department, said fire crews responded to the area of Buckingham Way and Effie Street around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Zimmerman says they have seen at least four fires in the past at this home, all of which were caused by homeless activity. The home had extensive damage.
“A lot of times, we see with these vacant structures, we'll have unhoused individuals get inside the building for shelter. And while in there, they'll start small fires for cooking,” said Captain Zimmerman.
