SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - A local Sarasota BMX racing team that’s been around for more than 50 years had a major setback.

Hap’s Honda BMX Racing team said someone broke into their trailer last Saturday, stealing $1,500 worth of equipment, including a generator and fans.

The team manager said the trailer is only six months old and was placed outside of his home in a gated community where the burglary happened.

“I had realized as soon as I went to open the trailer; I’d realized that it had been cut open,” said team manager for Haps BMX Racing Ryan Nobbe.

The team said the equipment is used to keep riders cool when they’re off the track.
