Assault charge

A 23-year-old Belleville man faces two charges after confronting police in the city’s downtown Thursday morning.

Police were downtown when they “were approached by a male who became verbally aggressive and made gestures to spray water on them with a water bottle,” a police news release stated. “The male then fled on foot from police.”

Police later located and arrested a man, charging him with assaulting a peace officer and resisting a peace officer. He was released pending a court appearance in November.
