Quinte West OPP are advising operators of powered bicycles and scooters to know related laws, a warning prompted by several recent incidents resulting in death and serious injury.

Multiple people have been charged in connection with operating e-bikes and other similar modes of transportation, police say.

Police this week outlined details of such bikes and some of the rules for operators.

E-bikes are the most common form of power-assisted bicycle.

They weigh no more than 120 kg and are steered with handlebars and can use either pedals or a battery to propel them.

Police say all e-bikes must have working pedals, a bell, a white front light, and a red rear light.

They are designed to travel on a maximum of three wheels in contact with the ground and must not exceed 3
