An immigrant workers rights group has updated a statement on its website, apologizing for posting an erroneous Wednesday report that federal immigration officials made a surprise Wednesday visit to a Greensboro hotel to check workers' documentation.

Greensboro-based Siembra NC, the immigrant advocacy group, posted a new statement on its Facebook page Thursday evening: "We have received new information that contradicts what we knew yesterday. This was a false alarm, not a Form I-9 audit inspection. Sorry for posting a wrong report.''

A Form I-9 audit describes a type of federal document inspection immigration officials use to scrutinize immigration papers and payroll records.
