A late touchdown rush by Jayden Nigro helped Verona open the season with a 14-8 win over St. Mary (Ruth.) in Verona.

Nigro punched in a one-yard touchdown with 5:08 left on the clock in the fourth quarter. Bodie Maisano gave Verona (1-0) an early 6-0 lead off a 39-yard scoring rush in the second quarter.

Thomas Messina put St. Mary (0-1) up 8-6 with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Huertas in the second quarter.
