AUSTIN, Texas — On Friday morning, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he signed congressional redistricting map House Bill 4 into law, according to a video posted on his X account.

Abbott wrote in his X post, "This map ensures fairer representation in Congress." He also said he hopes this will give Republicans more seats.

The newly signed law will shift districts in Austin, Houston, North Texas and the Rio Grande Valley in hopes of creating five more Republican seats in the U.S. House.

On Tuesday, The NAACP filed an injunction seeking to block the state's new map , arguing that it undermines Texas' redistricting process and disenfranchises voters of color.
