An investigation has been launched after a substance was discovered inside Dalkeith police station.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident around 10.30am this morning Friday 29 August 2025.

The substance was subsequently deemed not to be harmful, and no one was injured.

Officers say that an investigation to establish the full circumstances is still ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.30am on Friday, August 29, we received a report of a substance found at Dalkeith Police Station, Newbattle Road, Dalkeith.

“Emergency services attended and the substance is not believed to be harmful.

“No one was injured and there was no risk to the wider public.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
