ROCK HILL, S.C. — UPDATE (8/31) : K-9 Apollo, with Rock Hill Police, returned home after being stabbed while apprehending a suspect in an attempted stabbing case.

Police announced that Apollo was released from observation on Saturday and will be resting over the next few weeks as he recovers.

"We want to thank everyone at Carolina Veterinary Specialists, Catawba Animal Clinic and Rock Hill Carolina Vet Specialists who started treating Apollo immediately after the incident and throughout his surgery," Rock Hill Police said.

The suspect, Travonte Tate, allegedly stabbed the K-9 several times before officers disarmed him and took him into custody.

Tate was arrested for attempted murder of a woman and unlawful injury to a police dog.
