NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A Middletown resident was charged after allegedly defrauding Medicare of $680,000 in an alleged health care fraud scheme involving durable medical equipment (DME).

Court documents and statements allege that 29-year-old Habroon Habib defrauded a Medicare program using a company that he formed in January. Along with others, he allegedly submitted fraudulent claims for DME that was never provided to patients. This specifically included orthotics, which are devices worn to relieve pain associated with foot or ankle conditions.

His company, Around the World Solutions LLC, allegedly billed various private health insurers, sponsors of the Medicare Advantage plan, for orthotics that were said to have been provided to more than 400 patients around the United States, none
