LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A health alert was issued Friday at Bluestem Lake in Lancaster County, health officials announced.

The state said harmful algal blooms, also known as toxic blue-green algae, were reported at Bluestem Lake.

When a health alert is issued, people are advised to use caution around the lake.

Swimming beaches are closed during the alert, but recreational boating and fishing are permitted, officials said.
