MINNESOTA, USA — On Friday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz ordered all U.S. and state flags to fly at half-staff on Sunday in memory of a fallen Le Sueur police officer.
Officer Karl Haugen died on Aug. 18, 2025, according to a press release from the governor's office.
“Officer Karl Haugen dedicated more than 16 years to serving communities across Minnesota,” Walz said in the statement. His service, leadership, and commitment are deeply appreciated by his colleagues and the many communities he served. I extend my deepest condolences to his wife, Morgan, their children Griffin, Aurora and Teddy, and to all who knew and loved him.”
Haugen worked as a police officer in Le Sueur for 13 years. Previously, he worked at St. Peter Regional Treatment Center, the Minnesota Correctional Facility–Faribau
