NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Labor Day might mark the end of summer but now time to prepare for leaf-peeping season when the trees color the streets in shades of red, yellow and orange.

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, leaves are expected to start changing into their fall colors as early as mid-September. For those planning viewing trips, peak fall foliage is expected to hit during the second and third week of October.

Once the leaves are at their peak color, their vibrancy will only last for 7 to 10 days, the Farmer’s Almanac says.

In New York, the best places to view fall foliage are upstate, such as the Adirondack Mountains and Catskill Mountains. Both are expected to be in their peak in early October, forecasters say.
