A data breach in a University of Iowa Health Care affiliate's system may have compromised some general medical information for more than 200,000 people.
University of Iowa HomeCare, a "full-service home infusion and medical equipment services provider," experienced a computer system breach on July 3.
UI Health Care said the "cybercriminal" gained unauthorized access to the HomeCare computer system and was able to "see and take" copies of data, which included "some shared files containing information from a group of UI Health Care patients," UI Health Care said in a release on Friday, Aug. 29.
The data also contained patient names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, health care providers, the types of visits patients were having, medical insurance information and date of service.
