The first step in a ‘major redevelopment’ of Stockport train station has been revealed.
Big changes are planned at the busy railway hub, which is based in the town centre and serves trains on the West Coast Main Line connecting Manchester and London.
The upgrades are aimed at making it easier to access and use the station building, with the initial phases backed by more than £4m of government funding.

In May, Stockport MP Navendu Mishra raised the condition of the station in Parliament, urging new investment to make it ‘a place residents can be proud of.’
Local councillors in Edgeley have also raised concerns about the state of the train station .
