Thanks to cooler nights and recent rainfall, Yellowstone National Park is reopening fishing on the Madison, Firehole and Gibbon rivers and their tributaries, but only from sunrise until 2 p.m.
The streams were closed to all fishing on July 12 due to low flows and high water temperatures that stress trout.
"Water temperatures in select rivers and streams continue to exceed 68 degrees in recent days," the Park Service noted in a news release, "and flows remain low. These conditions are lethal to trout, and the partial closure will protect the park’s native and wild trout fisheries and will remain in effect until conditions improve.
