A Montana man pleaded not guilty this week to accusations of using artificial intelligence to produce child sex abuse material.
Shy Herbert McCutchan, a 31-year-old Carter County resident, has been charged with multiple counts of possessing child sex abuse material, according to a statement from the Montana Department of Justice, by taking a photo of a child off social media and using an AI program to depict that child engaging in sex acts.
The case against McCutchan is one of the first instances of a charge being filed using the recently enacted state law that specifically criminalize possessing and producing sexually explicit images of children that have been altered via AI.
