EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Police in Evansville are investigating after a woman was found dead Wednesday afternoon.

According to a release from the Evansville Police Department , around 5 p.m. on Aug. 27, officers were called to the 3300 block of East Gum Street on the east side of the city on a report of a medical emergency.

When officers arrived, they found a woman who was reportedly "beyond life-saving efforts." The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the incident is being treated as a death investigation and that the Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office will release the victim's name at a later time.
