NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Murders and other crimes are down in Tennessee. This is according to a new report by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation that’s more than 400 pages long.

A big statistic that stood out is that the number of total crimes in the state dropped six percent.

Crime was down last year in some big categories, with murders down 19 percent year over year.

Other areas that also dropped include:

Property crimes are down 12%

Car thefts are down 24%

Burglaries are down 13%

WSMV looked up early data from 2025. Murders are still down so far this year. They are down 17% compared to the first half of 2024.
