LUBBOCK, Texas--At just 29-years-old, Alyssa Walker's life changed with one word, cancer.

A kindergarten teacher, sorority advisor, and active member of her community, Alyssa was living what she describes as a "normal young woman's life" before her diagnosis. That all shifted in March shortly after her birthday, when she discovered a lump while reading in bed.

"I ran to my mom and was like is this normal? And she said no," Walker said

Her doctor initially believed it was a benign fibroadenoma, common in women her age. But after further testing, including a sonogram and biopsy, Alyssa received the news no one wants to hear, she was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer, a rare and aggressive form that accounts for only about 10 percent of breast cancer cases.
