The Lubbock City Council is hosting public hearings on Tuesday to hear from the public on its proposed tax rate and budget for 2026.

This comes after weeks of the council, city departments and the city manager have been crafting the two for the public's scrutiny.

The pubic hearings and the first vote on the two items will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Citizens Tower .

What is the proposed tax rate?

The Lubbock City Council also set the proposed maximum take rate that would fund the proposed budget as is at $0.479365.

But that is only the highest tax rate the city council could set. The council can set it at that rate or go lower.
