WASHINGTON — One week after President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that he planned to end federal approvals for electricity generated from wind and solar, the U.S. Transportation Department is making good on his promise. On Friday, the agency announced it will end $679 million in funding for 12 offshore wind projects.

“Wasteful wind projects are using resources that could otherwise go towards revitalizing America’s maritime industry,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a statement Friday.

Provided through the Transportation Department's Maritime Administration, the rescinded funds will be redirected toward American shipbuilding, port upgrades and “other core infrastructure needs of the United States,” he said.
