One dead after late-night apartment fire in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEVV) — One person is dead after a fire that broke out in Owensboro late Thursday night.

Around 11:50 p.m. On Thursday, firefighters were dispatched to a fire in a four-plex apartment building on Evergreen Drive after a neighbor reported the incident.

An Owensboro Police Department officer arrived before firefighters and found the apartment on fire with a resident still inside.

The officer was able to get the resident out, and fire and EMS personnel immediately began treatment.

Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to the other three units.

The resident who was removed by the officer was taken to a local hospital, then taken to a specialized burn care unit in Louisville, where they passed away on Friday.
