Wisconsin quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. is considered week to week with a sprained knee after undergoing an MRI following his early departure from the Badgers’ season opener, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Friday.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the school hasn’t announced an update regarding the condition of Edwards, who exited in the second quarter of Wisconsin’s 17-0 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Thursday.

The news of a sprain indicates Wisconsin avoided the worst-case scenario that occurred last year, when starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the Badgers’ third game and was unavailable the rest of the season.
