MADISON (WKOW) — Badgers starting quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. suffered a sprain to his left knee during Wisconsin's opening game of the season against Miami Ohio Thursday night at Camp Randall, according to ESPN sources.
Edwards Jr. suffered the non-contact injury in the second quarter, going to the ground in obvious discomfort. It's not yet clear how much time Edwards Jr. could miss. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Edwards' status as "week-to-week."
His MRI came back clean, Thamel reported, which eliminates a worst-case scenario.
Danny O’Neil, who started 11 games for San Diego State as a freshman last season, took over for Edwards and went 12 of 19 for 120 yards with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Vinny Anthony and an interception. He also scored on a 1-yard run.
