A burning asphalt tanker sent a column of smoke into the sky Friday morning before Hooksett firefighters arrived to extinguish it, fire officials said news release.

The Hooksett Fire Rescue Department responded Friday morning to a reported asphalt truck fire at JP Noonan Transportation. Crew members called for more resources when they noticed a large amount of smoke on the way to the site, and when they arrived a heavy fire was burning in a tanker trailer near the rear of the property, according to the report from the Hooksett department.

On-site workers told responders that the tanker held liquid asphalt and was only partially full, the release said. Fire crews asked for further tanker trucks to shuttle water from a hydrant to the blaze, officials said.
