SPOKANE, Wash. — A convicted felon armed with a revolver led police on a dangerous chase through downtown Spokane Thursday afternoon, nearly striking several pedestrians before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing on foot, according to the Spokane Police Department

Richard Tomich, 43, was arrested without incident after officers found his empty car and tracked him down in the lower south hill area, police said.

At approximately 4:10 p.m., SPD officers observed Tomich openly carrying a firearm near Second Avenue and McClellan Street.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, Tomich fled at high speed through the congested downtown area, police said. Officers terminated pursuit following departmental protocols to protect public safety.
