The concept of resource extraction companies sharing profits with the communities and municipalities they operate in throughout Ontario was brought to the table once again in Timmins at a recent council meeting.

With costs rising for municipal responsibilities such as road maintenance, particularly in northern Ontario, a proposed resolution was read aloud by city clerk Steph Palmateer on Aug. 5.

It hearkened back to May of 2018, when Premier Doug Ford was first running to be elected to province’s highest seat, and his campaign team released a platform piece titled, “Doug Ford will introduce resource revenue sharing for northern Ontario.”
