CINCINNATI (WXIX) - During a critical stretch of the season, the Cincinnati Reds’ No. 3 and No. 4 hitters have been battling.
Elly De La Cruz has been dealing with a quad injury at different points during the season, and he has a .685 OPS with just one homer since july 1.
“It’s just how the season goes,” De La Cruz said. “You go through it.”
While his average sprint speed is down and he has slipped up a few times on defense, De La Cruz hasn’t received a day off this season.
“You’ve got to be mentally strong,” De La Cruz said. “It doesn’t matter what happened the day before. You’ve got to come with the same mentality the next day. I feel really good. I just want to be able to keep playing.”
He also has three errors in his last five games.
