Parents can reach out on Bettina Jenkins Bathe's website to request a free book

Calgary-based author Bettina Jenkins Bathe is giving away 1,000 copies of books from her Violet the Pilot series, in honour of the back-to-school season.

Bathe, a retired pilot, wrote the series with the hope of inspiring young girls to enter the male-dominated aviation industry —though the books can be enjoyed by anyone, she said.

“There’s four books in the series of Violet the Pilot, and they take place in Canada, France, Hawaii and the Arctic,” Bathe said. “Violet is the little girl that flies different airplanes … There’s always some sort of adventure, there’s always a weather storm — just whimsical, magical adventure books.”
