OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Developed in 2008, Bitcoin is the first decentralized cryptocurrency, all based on a free-market ideology.

Director Lauren Sieckmann wanted to dig deeper into the phenomenon.

Though Bitcoin is a form of cryptocurrency, Sieckmann explains, there are differences.

“They are two different things. I would say Bitcoin has proven itself of more of a commodity and looked at more of a commodity in the U.S., it is scarce in its supply, there’s not someone who can control it, but these other coins, there’s somebody who created it, there’s somebody who can flip a switch and turn it on or off,” Sieckmann.

Post-college, Sieckmann realized she wanted to get into filmmaking. Her dad encouraged her to explore Bitcoin as it exists today.
